Have you ever had someone frighten you, as you walked by a doorway or empty room. They jump out or make a big noise and you stand there in terror with your tonsils in your hands. It’s a heart-racing event that my children love to do, and it’s highly uncomfortable. It’s not the position you expect to be in, nor do you want to be in it.
It’s way out of your comfort zone…
Leaders jump out of their comfort zone, on purpose, to impact, develop and grow.
I wrote this down as I was listening to someone talk a few weeks ago. It wasn't something I’m quoting form them, nor did they say these exact words, but I was feeling very uncomfortable in my job, at this time, and I know that I wanted to lead. The words just hit me as I was thinking about the challenges of life and business.
Life isn't easy…
There are hard times in everyones life. There are no guarantees of simplicity. We often have this utopian thought that life will get easier and simplify and that we can just float through. That just doesn't happen. We have challenges that come at us hard, and make us very uncomfortable. So what! We need to get used to it and get after the challenge and move forward. If it gets a little tight on the budget, keep going. If you feel some physical pain, keep moving. If you have a heartache, it will soften, and others can help you. The discomfort will help you grow…
Life changes quickly…
One day all is great…the next day you hit a wall. On Monday you see some great things ahead…by Tuesday your brakes fail on the van. At the beginning of the month you set some goals…today is the 29th - you missed them. Life comes at you very fast and you have to be as ready as you can for the changes, but most importantly, you need to realize that the Lord has it in His hands. He sees what the past was, the present is and He holds the future. Just develop better from the speed of life. The discomfort will help you develop…
Life goes by quickly…
Slightly different from above. Time flies whether you're having fun or not. If just zooms by and it doesn't stop. We cant waste a minute. Time is likely the most valuable commodity we have. It cant be bottled up, so what are you doing with it? Who have you impacted today? How have you worked? Are you improving? Are you growing? Have you missed opportunities? Have you failed? No matter what has happened, you have the opportunity to make time valuable from this point forward. Do it! The discomfort will help you impact…
Lessons Learned: I fail. I miss things. I hate being uncomfortable. I need to grow, Develop and impact.
Questions: Are you growing? Developing? Impacting? Uncomfortable?
