Mailboxes and fixing…

My mailbox is fixed!
A little more than a month ago, I posted about someone hitting my mailbox in “Mailboxes and patience…” That post has the damaged pictures too.
I was bothered by the incident and failed at the immediate patience part that was needed, in dealing with an accident. It wasn’t on purpose and it wasn’t really a big deal, and today is an update on lessons learned…

Caution lights and change…

I saw this new traffic light put up in a small town near where I live. It was flashing yellow.
It’s only the second traffic light in the city - obviously not a mega-metropolis.
It’s a big change for folks in that place, since the other light has been there for well more than 20 years.
I’ll bet that folks are reacting with a couple likely thoughts.
Why do we need another traffic light? Or…
It’s about time - that intersection is way too busy.
Maybe there are other reactions, but change happens, and so do caution lights, before the changes…

Garbage and memories…

I was sitting, in my car, in a parking lot, when I looked in the rearview mirror seeing this trash receptacle. I don’t usually look out my mirrors when I’m sitting in a parking lot, especially my passenger side mirror - there’s really not a reason too, while I’m sitting.
I just happened to glance at it this time.
I think the Lord uses our everyday experiences to remind us of how He helps us and loves us.
It says that objects may be closer than they appear.
Who wants trash close to them?
It brought some thoughts about the past up…

Elbow?

I went bowling a couple of weeks ago and while we were there, I saw this sign.
I know that companies market their businesses to many people in many different ways, but this one made me think.
Why the elbow?

Sled running and the Blvd…

The other day, I stopped in a parking lot to make a phone call (my car is often my cubicle, so parking lots make for good offices). As I was making a call, I looked over and saw this guy running with a weighted sled behind him. When I looked a little closer, I realized there were four guys and they were all doing different exercises.
One was using a fairly large medicine ball.
One was using a kettle weight.
One was doing pushups and other non-weight exercises.
And of course there was the sled.
The odd thing to me was…

Falling apart…

Life comes at us very fast and changes come along quicker than we can possible expect.
Sometimes the changes are negative or hurtful and they start to cause us to fall part at the edges. We see the issues and we try to patch them up, but they just keep fraying away at the corners of our lives.
Falling apart can happen in any part of our lives. It doesn’t have to be the whole thing. It can be a small area, but it still impacts our whole person. Sometimes, one area decays some and it spreads to other areas like a disease. Sometimes you get hit by a number of items at the same times and they all fall apart.
Whether these issues are your fault or out of your control, you have some options…

Swift Saturday #3…

Saturdays are a great day.
I love the fact that I get more family time and I get things done around the house.
I don’t read a lot of blogs on Saturdays, so I’ll keep this one short, so you don’t either…

Under construction...

We see lots of construction every day.
Buildings, like the one pictured.
Roads, bridges, hotels, houses, computers, tablets, mobile devices, etc., etc., etc.
Construction goes on all the time....
Why do we construct?

Do what ya gotta do…

This statement doesn’t apply to everything. Sometimes, it’s not accurate, but sometimes you have to do things you don’t like to get by in a pinch.
The picture above shows, that in a pinch, a screwdriver will work perfectly to hold a window up.
What do we do in a pinch?

HAHA!

Do you ever feel like people are snickering behind your back?
Do you ever feel like folks are pointing at you and mocking you?
Do you ever feel like their are people outright laughing at you?
Do you ever feel like no-one likes you?
Do you ever feel unloved?
Pretty sure that most everyone feels that way sometimes…
We hurt from others for two reasons…

Are you going the right way?

So many times we start off on a path and don’t pay attention to the signs.
So many times we are heading down a road and miss the right turns.
So many times we get focused on our goal and miss the obvious along the way.
We have to pay attention to the signs as we move on in our lives.
Sometimes the signs ward us of disaster that’s impending, like the one above…

Ripped pants and button popping…

With the tittle, you are immediately thinking that I outgrew my pants, split them and popped a button...well, I didn’t, so stop laughing - seriously, you’re making me mad - I’m a little sensitive. With a physique like mine, it’s hard not to be sensitive...I’m in great shape - oval is a shape...just not the best shape for a human. Whoa, did I digress...
Today’s story is about failing, over and over again. It was one of those days, that just didn’t go right.
I came into the office, and it went downhill from there…

Make it a Great day!

I have this line at the bottom of most every email I send out.
It’s a motto or credo I believe in and I likely motivate myself more than the folks that read my emails, but I know that we have choices and I chose to have great days.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not one that believes I am the be-all, end-all in life, but I know I can choose joy, rather than sadness, no matter the circumstances.
We have bad days, bad weeks, bad months and sometimes bad years...

Swift Saturday #2…

Saturday’s are busy, but I want you to think about this thought today…
I tweeted this out last week and I hope it impacts you today…
“Gratefulness destroys selfishness!”
Really it does - get your mind off of you and thank someone today!
I have this reoccurring theme of being thankful on my blog here, here and here.
I have realized that life is not about me, and a lot of others have put time, energy, effort, money, prayer and words into my life.
I can’t miss thanking them, not just once, but over, and over, and over again.
Lessons Learned: Being thankful to others impacts you more than you realize.
Thoughts: Who needs to be thanked, by you, today?

Time for the reset button...

I like to bowl. I went with some of our teens from my church's week or so ago - it was fun.
It's not a humorous statement, because I know you are picturing a big loud fat guy in a strange style of shirt that is called a "bowling shirt" because it doesn't fit into any other category of shirts. I do not own any of those shirts...
I know it's not a really popular sport (not sure if it's even in that category), but it's fun throwing a heavy ball at some wooden pegs to see how many you can knock down. It's a simple concept and that's what makes it fun.
Keeping it simple...
We have many simple concepts, in life, and bowling reminded me of one of them.
The reset button.

I have a disease…

It’s a disease that a lot of people have.
It’s quite contagious.
It doesn’t just impact me, it impacts others around me negatively.
I’ve had it for quite some times and it’s very hard to treat.
It’s a disease of the eye…

Are you stepping up?

These little steps are cool...
They get you places...
They take you higher in life...
Sometimes they help you to help others…
We should be stepping up in life…
I don’t really want to step up to be cool...that’s kind of a weak reason.

The spider effect…

Okay, I’ll admit it, I don’t really like spiders.
They’re creepy, sneaky and you don’t ever expect to see them.
I generally ask my teenage daughters to kill them for me, when one wonders into our house, or I get out a shotgun to ensure they have no chance of survival. I have been know to use an entire two gallon poison sprayer on a single spider crawling in the living room.
They aren’t an evil creature, but they invoke fear into almost everyone, at some level.
You've heard of the butterfly effect…

Letters, trees and answered prayer…

The other day, I prayed that God would provide for us in whatever way He could.

Sometimes I worry...I shouldn't...
I knew it was His choice, as to how He would provide for needs, but, one of the ways that I prayed that He would provide, was through the mail.
I was thinking “Million Dollar Check” like the huge ones you get at charitable events, when a company donates a lot of money.
I was okay with a small check (not the amount, just the size), but thought it would be cool to see some provision in the mail.
That’s exactly what happened…

Krispy Kreme and Sunday School…

First of all, the maple glazed donuts are the bomb (for you millennials, that means, cool, awesome, sweet, amazing).
I don’t know what the most modern term is for saying that the maple donuts are delicious, but I had to start off with the most important part of my post today - maple donuts!
I have noticed over the years, that donuts are a popular Sunday school class breakfast from ages 2 all the way to the Senior Workers class.
Donuts are a staple of the church.
They’re in every denomination and a lot of churches have them in their lobby’s.
This made me think…

Swift Saturday…

Go try something new today...and fail at it…then laugh hard…get up...get better at it...
I’m serious…

Lead is a 4 letter word…#5

Continuing with the 4 letter lead series today. Four letter words are not always negative and they can be a great help to you, if you allow them to be.
(I will not have these up everyday, but every couple or few days - they're a little longer and I know your time is valuable.)
Let me remind you it takes WORK (a dreadful four letter word) to get to where you want to be in life.
Keep moving forward towards your goals and don’t let the challenges distract you.
If you missed the first two words, you can see them here - LOST, SEEK, HELP, STEP...
Todays word is TEAM - T.E.A.M…

Footprints and imprints…

Footprints are cool.
They look cool.
They are left from where we walk.
You don’t have them ahead of you.
You leave them behind.
What kind of footprints are you leaving?

Broken bridges…

This picture is of a train bridge that is still in use, not far from where I live. Notice the wear and tear on it. It has some huge holes and some crumbling spots.

Some other broken posts - Broken Turtle, Broken Seagull, Broken Tooth...
This bridge has been around a long time and it been supportive for many trains.
Makes me think of our lives…

T.I.M.E…

“T.I.M.E. Them. Impact. Measure. Eternity. What we do each day, measurably changes people! For good? or Bad? Impact others! #failalot #impact”
I tweeted this about a week ago. It just came to mind and I thought it was tweetable, so I sent it out. It was retweeted 160,000 times - can you believe it?
So, that’s not true, but it made me this blog post sound really important, and even thought it may not be 160,000 tweet important, I think the simple word time, can change lives.
I posted about impacts last week and time before too...
Take a look at the word TIME…

Simple Saturday…

Today will be short and sweet - well, maybe not sweet, but short anyway.
I want to remind you of one simple thing…
Take time today to thank one person for how they impacted your life.
Better yet, make it three people.
Don’t just say a simple “Thanks.”
Take a moment to write something down and send it to them, in the mail, or via email or social networks.
Make sure it has a specific point to it, so that you impact them.
It needs to say how you were changed by them or what you do differently because of them.
Change someone's life today, because of a simple thanks.

Other posts about thanks...I mean it...Supportive...Small Coffee...
Lessons Learned: Gratefulness changes lives.
Thoughts: Who are you grateful for?

Holy cannoli…

I have been wanting to say this for a while how. It sounds so cool! Holy cannoli! The only way to improve it would be to say “Holy Cannoli, Batman!” I’ll bet you already thought of that. Wow, did I digress, on the title...sorry.
Little tubes of joy!
This picture was taken at a lunch during a corporate training. I saw them and wanted to hug the person who placed the order! Man, were these delicious!
The root word of cannoli is little tube and the reason I used joy is quite obvious.
The amazing thing is that these are only 8 total calories and the recommended portion size is 6. Remember, I am not a doctor, a nutritionist and I didn’t read any label to get my information.
I had a great lunch that day…
